How to Tell if Your Double-Pane Windows Need to be Replaced

New double-pane windows give you a variety of perks for homeowners in Edmonton, one being better energy efficiency. No matter if you’re exploring online or with an associate at a showroom, energy efficiency is a critical factor in the purchasing process for replacement windows. Double-pane windows are a great product if you’re looking for increased efficiency.

A lot of new double-pane windows contain argon, a colorless, nontoxic gas that is denser than air, which offers additional insulation from heat and cold.. However, if you see that your windows have become “foggy” or if they have developed condensation, you’ve likely developed a bigger leak and the gas has been substituted with moisture. There are two things that you can do to check to see if this is the case:

  1. Clean the exterior and interior portion of your glass to ensure that the condensation or fog you’re looking at is in between the glass, not on the glass.
  2. If you determine the moisture is in fact between the glass, you can contact the manufacturer to find out if it falls underneath your warranty.
Depending on the age of your windows and the conditions surrounding the leak, it could make sense to take a look at replacement windows. Insulation is one of the most important features of your windows, and if that is altered it can impact your heating and cooling expenses.
